Know Your Role

Your role matters

You are not simply a name on a committee list. You are often the person a Democratic voter sees first, calls first, or turns to when they have a question about the Democratic Party. You are the connection between the Democratic Party and the voters in your Election District.

While this is a volunteer role, you are expected to show up, participate, build relationships, work with your Regional Chair and County leadership, work your poll/precinct on Election Day, and help elect Democrats.

You are expected to:

• Know your Precinct/Election District (It’s where you live and vote) | Set a goal to increase Democratic turnout in your precinct (even if it’s just 5 more votes!)
• Work with your Regional Chair and attend meetings.
• Assist the County Chair with General Election efforts.
• Participate in Party meetings and activities and attend the WCDC Endorsement Convention.
• Help your voters access accurate election information, including election dates, election type, who is on the ballot, and why it matters.
• Participate in voter outreach and mail-ballot chase.
• Participate in canvassing and other Party activities; assists the candidates by volunteering as they need.

Each PCP should have a goal of increasing Democratic turnout in their precinct.

Door-to-Door Tips

Canvassing is the most effective way to reach voters. Keep it simple and personal.

• Introduce yourself as their neighbor
• Ask what issues matter most to them
• Listen more than you talk
• Leave a flyer even if no one's home
• Always canvass with a buddy

Talking Points

When talking to voters, focus on shared values: good jobs, affordable healthcare, great schools, and protecting our freedoms.

• Protecting our elections and expanding access to the ballot.
• Supporting good jobs, fair wages, strong unions, and an economy that works for working families.
• Ensuring access to quality, affordable healthcare.
• Protecting individual freedoms, equal opportunity, and the dignity of every person.
• Investing in the communities where people live, work, raise their families, and retire.
• Ensuring everyone has the opportunity to build a good life, regardless of who they love, how they worship, where they come from, or the circumstances into which they were born.

Election Day

Election Day is when all of our year-round work comes together. You will receive information from your Region Chair. (Check us out on Facebook for resources, updates and voter protection information)

On Election Day

• Work with your Regional Chair, who works with the County Chair. (Assignments and poll watcher certificates)
• Show up. Work your poll.
• Help voters.
• Share accurate information.
• Stay professional.
• Follow election law.
• Communicate problems quickly through the appropriate Party channels. (Training will be provided)

Your Conduct

When you serve as a PCP/County Committee Member, you represent the Democratic Party.

That does not mean you have to agree with everyone.

It does mean you are expected to treat people with respect and conduct yourself in a way that reflects the Party's mission and the responsibility of your position.

WE EXPECT YOU TO:

• Follow the WCDC Rules.
• Follow the Code of Conduct.
• Debate ideas, not people.
• Disagree without demeaning.
• Represent the Party honestly.
• Communicate responsibly.
• Work cooperatively with Party leadership and fellow County Committee Members.

If you are unsure whether something is permitted, ask before acting.
